The latest comments made by AP TDP MP Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu in the Lok Sabha regarding the formation of Telangana have sparked intense backlash from political leaders across Telangana. Leaders from various parties have united to condemn the MP’s rhetoric, labeling it an insult to the democratic process and the sacrifices made by the people of Telangana.
BRS Working President KTR emphasized that Telangana has seen twelve years of rapid progress since its formation. He advised the young leader to focus on the development of Andhra Pradesh rather than "crying" or expressing undue concern over Telangana. KTR noted that both states should thrive as neighbors and urged the MP to maintain a positive discourse.
Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Reddy also issued a fierce counter, questioning the MP's knowledge of history. He reminded the TDP leader that his own party chief, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, had previously submitted a letter supporting the state's creation. Former Corporation Chairman and BRS leader Devi Prasad further criticized the comments, stating that describing the passage of the Telangana Bill as a "black day" is an inhumane act that violates constitutional spirits. He noted that the absence of BRS members in Parliament was keenly felt as other parties failed to adequately defend the state’s dignity.
Adding to the criticism, BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan slammed the TDP leadership for using toxic rhetoric to mask their own administrative failures in Andhra Pradesh. He challenged the TDP leaders to a formal debate in Parliament regarding the hurdles they created during the statehood movement.
The controversy stems from MP Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu’s speech during a debate on a no confidence motion in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He characterized February 14, 2014, as a "Black Day," alleging that the doors of Parliament were closed to pass the Telangana Bill.
