CM Revanth to inaugurate TIMS Sanathnagar today

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the Dr Marri Channa Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr MCR TIMS) at Sanathnagar on Monday, marking the opening of one of Telangana’s largest public healthcare projects. Spread across 22.6 acres, the integrated medical campus has a built-up area of 11.70 lakh sq ft and 1,082 beds, including 300 ICU beds. Developed under a single master plan and in one phase, the hospital aims to provide advanced super-speciality treatment comparable with corporate hospitals.

The facility has been designed as a Centre of Excellence in six areas — organ transplantation, cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, nephrology and trauma care. It is equipped for kidney, liver, heart and multi-organ transplants, advanced cardiac surgery, radiotherapy and round-the-clock emergency care.

The hospital comprises four blocks with 31 major and six minor operation theatres and 30 clinical departments. Its diagnostic infrastructure includes 17 pathology, 12 microbiology, 10 biochemistry and five specialised laboratories, besides a 3.0 Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT scanner, advanced mammography unit and five X-ray machines.

One of its key technological features is an AI-enabled pneumatic tube system, described as the first of its kind in the government sector in the country. The system will transport blood samples, medicines, reports and emergency supplies between wards, laboratories, pharmacy and blood bank within one to two minutes, helping reduce diagnostic turnaround time and contamination risks.

Block A houses emergency services, 15 operation theatres, 30 ICU beds and the Central Sterile Services Department. Block B includes OP registration, central pharmacy, cardiac operation theatre, nuclear medicine and two catheterisation laboratories. Block C accommodates radiology and pathology laboratories, wards and VIP suites, while Block D houses administrative and academic facilities and a 200-seat auditorium.

The campus also includes a six-storey dharmasala with accommodation for 200 patient attendants, a 30-body mortuary, central kitchen, laundry and dedicated medical gas and oxygen pipeline facilities. Environment-friendly features have earned the hospital an IGBC Gold rating. The facility is designed to save up to 75% of water through sewage and effluent treatment plants, rainwater harvesting and water recycling for landscaping and green corridors.

The Telangana government entrusted the project to Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) under the EPC mode. MEIL said the project recorded 35 lakh safe working hours without accidents. TIMS Sanathnagar is expected to expand access to high-end super-speciality healthcare through the public health system and strengthen Telangana’s medical infrastructure.
