V. C. Sajjanar has urged parents to remain vigilant about their children during the summer vacation, warning that excessive use of smartphones and social media can harm their health, development, and future.

Reflecting on changing childhood patterns, he said summer holidays once meant outdoor play and family bonding, but are now largely confined to screens. With parents often preoccupied, many children are slipping into digital dependence, leading to loneliness and isolation.

He cautioned that social media exposes children to strangers and addictive short-video content, affecting sleep, diet, and overall well-being. Minor issues are also pushing some children to leave home, causing distress to families.

Sajjanar advised parents to spend more time with their children instead of relying on gadgets, monitor their online activity, and guide them positively. He stressed the need for reassurance, especially during exam result periods. Emphasizing that parental involvement is key, he said time and attention—not material gifts—are crucial to protect children from digital addiction and ensure their well-being.
