Tension gripped the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board office at Lakdikapul on Monday as hundreds of unemployed youth staged a protest demanding an increase in police recruitment vacancies. The demonstrators urged the State government to raise the number of proposed police posts from 5,000 to 20,000, arguing that the existing notification was inadequate to meet the aspirations of thousands of job seekers.

The protest was organised by the Telangana Unemployed Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the SI and Police Constable Candidates' JAC. Protesters attempted to march towards the Recruitment Board office and demanded that officials reconsider the number of vacancies announced for the upcoming recruitment drive.

As the protest intensified, police personnel deployed at the venue stopped the demonstrators from entering the premises. Several protesters were detained and shifted to nearby police stations. Videos from the scene showed police dragging some of the demonstrators while clearing the protest site, leading to criticism from student organisations and job aspirants. The protesters said thousands of candidates have been preparing for police recruitment examinations for several years and expected a much larger recruitment notification. They alleged that announcing only 5,000 posts after a long wait was disappointing and would not address unemployment in the State.

Besides increasing police vacancies to 20,000, the protesters also demanded that the government fulfil its promise of filling two lakh government jobs and immediately release the long-pending job calendar to provide certainty and employment opportunities for unemployed youth across Telangana.
