Man held for allegedly cheating by posing as DSP

The Central Crime Station (CCS), Detective Department, Hyderabad City Police, has arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly cheated several people by posing as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and luring them into investing money in fictitious or undisclosed companies with promises of huge returns within a short period. The accused has been identified as Konduru Reddy Venkat Raju, also known as KVP Raju and DSP Raju, a resident of Rayachoti in Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh.

He had allegedly been absconding since 2021 and is also involved in three other criminal cases registered in Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad.  According to police, the accused allegedly approached victims in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and persuaded them to invest substantial amounts in non-existent or undisclosed business ventures, promising exceptionally high returns within a short period. In the present case, the accused and his associates allegedly induced the complainant to hand over Rs 1.20 crore on the promise of substantial returns. The amount was allegedly not repaid, resulting in a significant financial loss to the complainant. The arrest was made in connection with Crime No. 192/2021, registered by EOW Team-V of the CCS, Detective Department, Hyderabad, under Sections 406, 420 and 170 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation has also revealed that the accused is allegedly involved in three other similar cases-one each in Tirupati, Hyderabad and Nellore. The arrest was carried out by EOW Team-V Sub-Inspector G. Anil Kumar and his team under the guidance of Investigation Officer K. Kiran, ACP, EOW Team-V
