Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said on Saturday that there is a need to coordinate between the police department and the judiciary and work on digital evidence. She was speaking at an awareness seminar organized by the Directorate of Prosecution in Vijayawada. She complimented judiciary as a dignified profession and said that the police and lawyers are being respected nowadays.
However, she expressed her concern over the increase in cyber crimes."The thieves nowadays are smarter than we are. Digital evidence is very useful. Lawyers, doctors and even policemen have been caught in cybercrime. Lives are being destroyed for easy money. There should be awareness on digital crime and digital evidence," she said.
She recalled the incident where a six-month-old girl was raped in Vizianagaram district but within three months, the accused was sentenced to 25 years in jail. She said this would be possible because the police and judiciary was functioning properly.
The Home Minister called for called for popularizing CCTVs . She said that the government is using drones and digital technology for traffic control. She gave the example of “Asthra” App. She also appealed to the lawyers to work closely with the common people. She stated that if the prosecutors also speak in a language that the public understands, they will know in detail what the case is.
