In a significant administrative reform, the Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday issued G.O. Ms. No. 35, marking a turning point in the Panchayati Raj Department. The government order, released under the leadership and initiative of Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayati Raj Minister Pawan Kalyan, brings long-awaited relief to thousands of employees who have been serving in the department for decades without promotions.

According to the new order, Panchayat Extension Officers currently working in the MPDO (Mandal Parishad Development Office) will now be re-designated as Deputy MPDOs, paving the way for promotional avenues that have been stagnant for years. This reform directly benefits thousands of government employees who had been awaiting recognition and career growth.

The decision was widely welcomed by the Panchayati Raj Employees’ Union, which expressed gratitude towards Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan for his proactive role in addressing their long-pending demands. The union highlighted that until now, MPDO posts were being filled through direct recruitment, but under the new G.O., this practice will be abolished. Going forward, these posts will be filled only through promotions, offering a clear path of advancement for experienced employees within the department.

Describing the move as “historic,” union leaders extended their appreciation to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Education Minister Nara Lokesh, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, Principal Secretary of the Rural Development Department Shashi Bhushan Kumar, Panchayati Raj Director Krishna Teja, and Pawan Kalyan’s OSD Venkata Krishna for their roles in making this reform a reality.
