Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday alleged that the Congress government's Musi River project would lead to large-scale displacement of poor and middle-class families.
Addressing party workers in Rajendranagar, KTR claimed that even Mahatma Gandhi's grandson, Tushar Gandhi, had opposed demolitions linked to the project. Despite such objections, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was continuing with plans that would uproot thousands of families, he alleged.
Criticising the Chief Minister's proposal to install a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, KTR said Revanth Reddy invoked Gandhi's name while disregarding his ideals. If the government truly respected Gandhi's principles, it should stop demolishing homes, he said.
KTR alleged that families facing displacement, including children, had appealed to the government to spare their homes, but their pleas had gone unheard.
The BRS leader also accused the BJP of supporting the Congress government's actions on the Musi project. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Revanth Reddy as "Bade Bhai" and "Chote Bhai," respectively, he alleged that both parties were working together to facilitate land acquisitions and demolitions along the river.
Questioning the government's priorities, KTR said the Congress had cited a lack of funds to implement election promises but was prepared to spend ₹1.5 lakh crore on the Musi project. He alleged that the project was designed to generate commissions and argued that the funds should instead be used to fulfil promises made to the people.
Describing the Congress government's performance as disappointing, KTR claimed public dissatisfaction was growing and that people were looking for political change in the state.
