The Parade Grounds in Hyderabad were a sight to behold as the skies came alive with a spectacular display of kites in every imaginable color, shape, and size. From vibrant bird-like designs to playful cartoon-shaped kites, the vast expanse above the city was transformed into a mesmerizing canvas of art and tradition.

Continuing the cherished custom of kite flying during Sankranti, Hyderabadis flocked in large numbers to the seventh edition of the International Kite and Sweet Festival, organized by the Telangana Tourism Department. The three-day extravaganza, which began with great fervor, is anticipated to attract over 15 lakh visitors and will conclude on January 15.

The event brought together kite lovers, cultural enthusiasts, and families who gathered in high spirits to celebrate the season of harvest. A total of 57 international kite flyers from 19 countries, including Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka and 58 national kite flyers from 22 States showcased their unique and dazzling kite designs. Two dedicated kite-flying zones—one for national and the other for international participants—ensured an organized and engaging experience for everyone.

To accommodate the massive crowds, the police department facilitated smooth traffic management, ensuring hassle-free parking arrangements within the Parade Grounds. Their efforts to reduce congestion on surrounding roads earned praise from visitors.

Adding to the festival’s charm, the Sweet Festival was a massive success. Over 700 women participants from 28 Indian states and abroad presented a diverse array of delectable sweets, offering a true culinary journey for the attendees.

Women from Telangana and other states, including Punjab, Gujarat, Kerala, and Maharashtra, are showcasing a variety of homemade sweets, reflecting the diversity of India’s rich food culture. These delicacies will be available for display and sale at designated food courts. A total of 1,350 stalls of various dishes from home and abroad have been set up.

Spanning from morning to evening, the festival brought together people of all ages to celebrate the vibrant traditions and rich culture of Sankranti. With Hyderabad’s unmatched love for kites filling the skies and the sweet aroma of delicacies filling the air, the event became a heartwarming celebration of joy, unity, and festive cheer.
