The announcement of a new political party by MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has triggered sharp reactions across Telangana’s political landscape, drawing criticism from both the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP.

Senior Congress leaders were quick to dismiss the move as a calculated political manoeuvre. TPCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud described the new party as a “strategic distraction,” suggesting it is an attempt to distance the Kalvakuntla family from the declining image of the BRS. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also questioned the timing and intent behind the launch, stating that people in the state are more focused on governance and development rather than political rebranding.

Adding a layer of irony, some Congress MPs “congratulated” Kavitha, remarking that the formation of a new party effectively signals internal disarray within the BRS.

The BJP mounted an even sharper attack, led by MP Dharmapuri Arvind. Known for his satirical remarks, Arvind criticised Kavitha’s move as evidence of a “TRS hangover,” mocking both the party’s intent and its positioning. He alleged that the BJP had already diminished her political relevance and dismissed the new outfit as an attempt to revive a struggling career.

Other BJP leaders echoed similar sentiments, linking the move to ongoing controversies and investigations, and asserting that rebranding cannot erase past allegations.

Amid these reactions, the broader political climate in Telangana appears increasingly polarised. While Kavitha presents her new party as a fresh political alternative, her rivals across party lines remain unconvinced, viewing it instead as a bid to preserve political relevance in a rapidly shifting landscape.
