YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched a fresh attack on the Andhra Pradesh coalition government, accusing it of failing to fulfil its election promises to DWCRA women and pushing the state’s economy towards a slowdown. In a detailed post on social media platform X, Jagan alleged that the TDP-led coalition had abandoned its promise of enhancing the interest subsidy limit on Self-Help Group (SHG) loans from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, a key assurance made during the Assembly elections. He claimed that after coming to power, the government had completely neglected the scheme, leaving lakhs of women beneficiaries without financial support.
Jagan stated that during the previous YSRCP government, women belonging to Self-Help Groups received Rs 4,969 crore towards interest reimbursement, apart from benefits under welfare schemes such as YSR Aasara and YSR Cheyutha, which, he said, strengthened rural women economically.
He alleged that the coalition government had failed to release even a single rupee under the interest subsidy scheme during the 2024-25 financial year. Although Rs 100 crore was allocated in both the 2025-26 and 2026-27 Budgets, the allocations remained only on paper and no funds had reached beneficiaries, he claimed. As a result, DWCRA women had suffered losses of nearly Rs 6,000 crore over the last two years, he alleged.
The former Chief Minister also claimed that the growth in SHG credit had declined sharply under the present government. According to him, SHG loans, which stood at Rs 49,696 crore in 2023-24, fell to Rs 41,623 crore in 2024-25 and further declined to Rs 41,105 crore in 2025-26. Expressing concern over the state’s finances, Jagan alleged that Andhra Pradesh recorded a negative tax revenue growth of 3.22 per cent in 2025-26, describing it as a warning sign of an economic slowdown. He cautioned that neglecting women Self-Help Groups, considered the backbone of the rural economy, would further weaken the state’s financial health and demanded that the government immediately release the pending interest subsidy dues.
