Fires caused by the burning of post-harvest crop residue turned tragic across the erstwhile Warangal district on Saturday, claiming the life of a farmer and causing extensive damage to agricultural property in separate incidents.

A major fire broke out in Upparapalli village of Kesamudram mandal in Mahabubabad district, destroying farm equipment and irrigation pipelines belonging to local farmers. Officials suspect the blaze spread rapidly after dry crop residue caught fire, leading to heavy losses.

In a more tragic incident, a farmer lost his life while trying to control a wildfire in Repaka village of Regonda mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. The deceased was identified as 62-year-old Jagarla Chandramouli.

According to villagers, Chandramouli rushed to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby fields after crop residue caught fire. However, the fire intensified suddenly, trapping him in the blaze. He died on the spot before help could reach him.

His wife and son, who witnessed the incident, tried desperately to rescue him but were unable to save him. The incident has left the family and villagers devastated.
