Funds Misuse Alleged in Mallapur Village

Villagers of Mallapur in Koilkonda mandal have alleged that unnecessary works are being taken up in the gram panchayat merely to utilise funds, while several essential development works remain neglected. They claimed that no gram sabha resolution was passed before initiating the works and questioned the need for spending public money on non-priority activities, especially when the region is facing the impact of a weak monsoon and water-related challenges.

According to the villagers, several urgent civic issues, including drainage works and other basic infrastructure, require immediate attention. However, instead of addressing these priorities, the panchayat has reportedly undertaken the removal of grass along an existing BT road using earthmoving machinery, despite there being little vegetation in the area. They alleged that the work serves no public purpose and is being executed only to draw government funds.

Residents expressed disappointment over the lack of transparency and claimed that they were not informed about the works in advance. They also questioned whether the mandatory resolutions and procedures were followed before sanctioning the project. Villagers urged higher authorities to inspect the works and ensure that public funds are utilised only for genuine development needs.

They further pointed out that with intermittent rains expected during the monsoon, the grass would naturally grow back, making the expenditure unnecessary. Instead, they said, the funds should have been used for long-pending civic requirements that would benefit the village.

When contacted, Mallapur Panchayat Secretary Mounika said that all queries regarding the work, including gram sabha resolutions and other details, should be addressed to the village sarpanch, who would provide the necessary clarification.
