The Congress party has initiated the process of selecting candidates for MLC positions under the MLA quota as five seats are set to become vacant in Telangana on March 29. With the Election Commission's notification already in place and the nomination filing deadline set for March 10, the party is expediting the selection process.
On Wednesday, AICC Telangana In-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in Jubilee Hills to discuss potential MLC candidates. The hour-long meeting focused on streamlining the selection process amid intense competition for the four seats Congress aims to secure, while BRS is expected to claim the fifth seat based on its numbers in the state assembly.
The TPCC Core Committee has taken the lead in shortlisting candidates, with another meeting expected soon due to the large number of aspirants. Senior leaders, key figures who lost the assembly elections, those who missed out on party tickets, organizational leaders, and BC representatives are among those lobbying for a seat. BC leaders, citing the recent caste survey figures, are pushing for increased representation, while alliance partner CPI has also staked a claim for an MLC position.
As part of the ongoing selection process, Meenakshi Natarajan reviewed feedback from leaders of the Medak and Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituencies and shared her observations with CM Revanth Reddy. Reports suggest that the Congress party is considering reserving MLC positions for individuals who have demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the party.
Meenakshi Natarajan’s stern message to party functionaries
AICC Telangana In-charge Meenakshi Natarajan has issued a clear directive to Congress leaders, cautioning them against discussing internal party matters in public. She emphasized that violations of this rule would lead to strict action.
Addressing a meeting with PCC-affiliated committees at Gandhi Bhavan, she stressed that even without formal reports, the leadership is aware of who is genuinely working for the party and who is merely posturing. She urged leaders to focus on strengthening the party instead of engaging in public discourse on internal affairs. Additionally, she stated that any concerns regarding her leadership could be directly raised with Rahul Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi.
Since her recent arrival in Hyderabad from Madhya Pradesh, Natarajan has been actively involved in streamlining party operations, resolving internal challenges, and maintaining a structured and disciplined approach.
Following her morning meeting with CM Revanth Reddy on MLC candidate selection, Natarajan engaged with Congress-affiliated organizations and later held discussions with Adilabad district leaders. Throughout these interactions, she conveyed her strict stance on discipline and accountability within the party.
