District Collector Kumar Deepak on Thursday called for coordinated efforts among officials and public representatives to ensure effective implementation of welfare and development programmes. He was addressing a mandal-level meeting at the MPDO office in Chennur under the Praja Palana Pragati 99-day initiative.

The Collector stressed that schemes must be executed efficiently at the grassroots so that benefits reach all eligible sections. He said paddy procurement is being carried out through designated centres with bonus support for fine varieties. Under the Indiramma housing scheme, nearly 3,500 houses have reached slab level, and steps are underway to sanction houses to eligible applicants.

Beneficiaries unable to construct houses will be assisted through contractors, with free sand provided by the government. Highlighting women empowerment, he said self-help groups are being encouraged under the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme to take up economic activities. Opportunities have already been provided for running petrol pumps in some areas, and similar proposals from Chennur SHGs will be considered as per norms.

He added that pensions and ration cards will be issued after due verification. Government schools are witnessing improved enrolment with better facilities, nutrition, and drinking water.

The Collector also reviewed infrastructure works, including roads, drainage, and solar lighting, and later took part in a road safety awareness programme, urging strict adherence to traffic rules.
