Collector calls for transforming Mulugu into tourism hub

District Collector Borkhade Hemant Sahadev Rao on Wednesday called upon all stakeholders to transform Mulugu district into a tourism hub while preserving its rich heritage structures. He emphasized that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect historical monuments and introduce the district’s history, culture and traditions to the world.

Speaking at the inauguration of a Heritage Walk organized as part of the “Tourism Week Celebrations” under the 99-day “Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika” initiative, the Collector highlighted Mulugu’s unique position due to its numerous tourist attractions.

Collector Borkhade Hemant Sahadev Rao flagged off the Heritage Walk from the Youth Training Centre near the National Highway U-turn in Jakaram village of Mulugu mandal to the ancient Shiva temple, which dates back to the Kakatiya period.Addressing the gathering, the District Collector noted that apart from the Ramappa Temple, which has received World Heritage recognition, the district is home to several other magnificent tourist destinations. He praised the area’s diverse attractions, including the famous Bogatha Waterfall, Laknavaram Lake, Medaram Sammakka-Saralamma Temple, Tadwai Hats, Eturunagaram Wildlife Sanctuary, and Blackberry Island.

The Collector revealed that the tourism season in Mulugu lasts for nearly eight months and that a large number of visitors are arriving not only from Hyderabad but also from other states. He stressed the need to develop the district’s tourism infrastructure on the lines of Kerala and Rajasthan .He also announced that special competitions with social media influencers are being organized to give wider publicity to the district’s tourism potential.

In addition, “Tourism on Wheels” is being implemented as an innovative tourism promotion initiative of Telangana Tourism aimed at creating awareness about the State’s rich tourism potential, cultural heritage, eco-tourism destinations, pilgrimage centres, handicrafts, cuisine, and unique travel experiences.

As part of this initiative, an Influencer Reels Competition has been announced to encourage youth, social media influencers, vloggers, photographers, tourists, and content creators to produce engaging promotional content on the tourism attractions of Mulugu district. The competition will be conducted from 21st May 2026 to 30th May 2026.

Participants are invited to create high-quality reels and short videos highlighting tourist destinations, local culture, scenic landscapes, eco-tourism sites, tribal heritage, cuisine and unique travel experiences of Mulugu district. The District Administration informed that the best entries may also be featured on official social media platforms for wider tourism promotion.

Prize Details: First Prize of 21,000/- second prize of Rs 15,000/- and third prize of Rs 11,000 /-

Participants may submit tourism reels/videos related to Mulugu district destinations.
