In a significant development for Hyderabad’s future infrastructure and regional connectivity, the Ministry of Railways has approved the survey for the Detailed Project Report for the proposed Regional Ring Rail Project in Telangana. The approval marks the beginning of the formal groundwork required to take the ambitious project forward.
Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh conveyed the decision in an official communication to Member of Parliament Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy. In the letter, the Minister stated that the alignment of the proposed rail corridor will be finalised along the Regional Ring Road in consultation with the Government of Telangana.
The green signal for the DPR survey is considered a crucial first step toward the implementation of the Regional Ring Rail project. The survey will examine technical feasibility, alignment details, cost estimates, and other critical aspects necessary for the preparation of the Detailed Project Report.
The Ministry also clarified that a fixed timeline for the execution of the project cannot be determined at this stage. After the DPR is completed, the project will require further approvals from the Government of Telangana, NITI Aayog, and the Ministry of Finance before it can move into the implementation phase.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has consistently urged the Central Government to approve the Regional Ring Rail project, highlighting its importance in strengthening Hyderabad’s transportation network and supporting the region’s rapid growth.
Earlier proposals had suggested a rail alignment located about 10 to 11 kilometres away from the Regional Ring Road, which raised concerns regarding large scale land acquisition and the possibility of creating parallel infrastructure. Following representations from the Telangana Government, the alignment is now being reconsidered to run alongside the Regional Ring Road, which is expected to reduce complications and improve integration with planned infrastructure. Centre's nod marks an important step toward realising the Hyderabad Regional Ring Rail project, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity and support the region’s long-term development.
