Y. S. Sharmila on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on both the ruling TDP-led alliance and the YSRCP, accusing them of damaging Andhra Pradesh’s development and claiming only the Congress truly represents former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s legacy.

Addressing a gathering during a Congress joining programme, Sharmila said padayatras alone do not make anyone YSR’s political heir. In an apparent swipe at Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, she said YSR’s legacy was about living among people and working for their welfare, not “sitting in palaces and pressing buttons.”

She alleged that leaders who rose using YSR’s name became inaccessible after gaining power. Sharmila said strengthening Congress was equal to preserving YSR’s welfare-driven governance model.

Defending Congress on bifurcation, she said safeguards like Special Category Status, Polavaram, Kadapa Steel Plant and Dugarajapatnam Port were promised but remained unfulfilled. She accused both N. Chandrababu Naidu and Jagan of failing to pressure the Centre on Andhra Pradesh’s interests.
