The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated disciplinary action in connection with alleged sexual harassment of female students at the Dr. Nori Rama Sastry Government Ayurvedic Medical College. The Medical and Health Department has taken action against four staff members, signalling a strict stance on misconduct within educational institutions.

According to officials, two individuals directly facing allegations have been placed under suspension. They include medical officer and assistant professor Dr. D. Mouli Naik, and laboratory technician K.V. Subrahmanyam. In addition, the college principal Dr. K. Nirmala Jyothibai and Professor K. Vijay Kumari of the PSP department have been surrendered to the government on grounds of alleged negligence in discharging their duties.

Ronanki Gopalakrishna confirmed the action in an official statement, noting that the department acted promptly following complaints and preliminary findings.

He stated that an internal inquiry is already underway within the institution. To ensure transparency and impartiality, the department has also written to G. Lakshmisha, requesting the constitution of an independent committee to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Sources indicate that the action follows complaints submitted by students, with inputs from the Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Women. The commission had reportedly forwarded the complaints to the government, prompting a formal response. The swift disciplinary measures underscore the government’s intent to address serious allegations within academic institutions and ensure accountability at all levels. Officials reiterated that further action will be based on the findings of the ongoing inquiries.
