Apart from Lashkar deputy chief Saifullah Kasuri, Inam Ur Rehman, president of the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League, regarded as the political front of the outfit, was among the terrorists present at Shahid Akhtar’s funeral in Islamabad.

Islamabad: The funeral of former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar's elder brother, Shahid Akhtar, in Islamabad has drawn scrutiny after senior members of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT), including deputy chief Saifullah Kasuri, were seen attending the last rites.

Shahid Akhtar, who died on June 24, was buried at Islamabad's H-8 graveyard. Videos circulating on social media show Kasuri and other Lashkar-linked figures at the funeral prayers.

Also present was Inam Ur Rehman, president of the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML), regarded as the political front of Lashkar.

The incident has renewed concerns over the continued public presence of members of banned terror organisations in Pakistan. Kasuri has repeatedly made anti-India statements and, after the April Pahalgam terror attack, continued issuing threats, including warnings of another Mumbai-style strike by sea.

Shoaib Akhtar retired from international cricket in 2011 and now works as a cricket commentator. —IANS
