The Water Board is constructing a 135 km pipeline network, covering four constituencies to upgrade the sewer system in areas like Goshamahal, Nampally, Karwan, and Jubilee Hills. Till date, 120 km of pipeline has been completed, including 9.5 km of 200-300 diameter pipelines, 6.5 km of trunk mains, and 1.2 km of tunneling works in 10 locations.
The HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy, along with Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, inspected the ongoing works of the Zone-3 sewer network project aimed at modernizing the sewer system in the core city area. The inspection covered problematic areas where the construction is in progress.
The first stop was at Tolichowki flyover's main road to discuss how to undertake junction works without causing disruptions. Considering the presence of religious sites and a labor hub, it was deemed challenging. They decided to conduct tunneling works, occurring 8 to 11 meters underground, during non-peak hours and holidays to minimize public inconvenience.
MD Ashok Reddy instructed officials to coordinate with GHMC, Transco, Water Board Transmission, and O&M officers for the tunneling works. Trial pits should be set up to assess and avoid interference with underground pipes and cables. Proper barricades and safety measures must be in place during construction. He also inspected underground tunneling works on the road leading to 7 Tombs. The MD directed that the stretch be completed by early March with work conducted in two shifts.
