Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday undertook an extensive review of major irrigation projects in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar region, with a special focus on accelerating works under the Makthal Narayanpet Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme (MNKLIS) and other key projects aimed at enhancing irrigation coverage across the region.
During his visit to Makthal in Narayanpet district, the Chief Minister stated that the MNKLIS would provide irrigation facilities to nearly one lakh acres of agricultural land, significantly benefiting farmers in the drought prone region. He inspected the ongoing works under Package 1 of the project at Katrevupalli village in Makthal mandal and reviewed the progress of the pumphouse construction. After viewing a photo exhibition depicting the status of the project, he directed officials to expedite the pending works and ensure timely completion.
Irrigation Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of the scheme and other irrigation projects during the tour. Ministers C. Damodar Rajanarasimha, Jupally Krishna Rao and former Karnataka Minister N. S. Boseraju were also present.
As part of the two day irrigation projects review, the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey from Makthal, accompanied by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Vakiti Srihari, and former Karnataka Minister Boseraju. During the aerial inspection, he reviewed the Koilsagar Project, the proposed barrages on the Krishna and Bhima rivers, and the Priyadarshini Jurala Project dam area.
Later, the Chief Minister visited Gudendoddi Reservoir and the JNLIS Stage 1 Pumphouse in Dharur mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal district. He inspected the facilities and reviewed ongoing works on the ground.
A high level review meeting was also held at Somasila on all major irrigation projects in the unified Mahabubnagar district. The meeting was attended by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodar Rajanarasimha, Jupally Krishna Rao, Vakiti Srihari, Planning Board Vice Chairman Chinna Reddy, local MLAs, MLCs, Corporation Chairpersons and senior officials.
The Chief Minister's tour will continue on Friday with inspections of the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Narlapur Reservoir, Yedula Reservoir, Karivena Reservoir and Uddandapur Reservoir. He is also scheduled to address a public meeting at Uddandapur before returning to Hyderabad.
