YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was unable to meet former minister Seediri Appala Raju, who is lodged in Ampolu Sub-Jail in Srikakulam district, after the scheduled prison visiting hours had ended.
Appala Raju, who was arrested in connection with a road accident case, is currently in judicial remand at the jail. According to officials, prison authorities had permitted Jagan to meet the former minister until 5 p.m. However, by the time Jagan reached the prison premises, the allotted time had expired. YSRCP leaders reportedly requested prison authorities to allow the meeting despite the delay. The jail superintendent consulted senior officials, who maintained that prison rules did not permit inmate meetings after the stipulated visiting hours.
With permission denied in accordance with jail regulations, the proposed meeting between Jagan and Appala Raju was cancelled. Following the development, Jagan met members of Appala Raju’s family, who had been waiting outside the prison, and enquired about their well-being before leaving the jail premises.
