TGFDC launches free library at Botanical Garden

11-02-2026 12:00:00 AM

The Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC) today inaugurated two public-oriented initiatives at the Botanical Garden, Kodapur, Hyderabad, aimed at promoting knowledge, awareness, and appreciation of forests. The events were led by TGFDC Chairman Sri Podem Veeriah and Vice Chairman & Managing Director Smt. Sunita Bhagwat, IFS.

Free Library for Public Learning

As part of its ongoing social outreach, TGFDC launched a Free Library to encourage reading habits among citizens, particularly students. The library operates on a simple, inclusive model: visitors can select books to read and return them for others to use. Citizens are also invited to donate books, fostering a culture of shared learning. The initial collection was generously contributed by Smt. Sunita Bhagwat, reflecting the Corporation’s focus on education and community participation.

Story Board – “The Lesser Known Khaki”

Alongside the library, a compelling story board titled “The Lesser Known Khaki” was unveiled, highlighting the critical yet often unseen role of forest officers in forest protection, conservation, and sustainable development. Conceptualized by Smt. Piyusha Jagtap, IFS, the installation combines visuals and narrative to showcase the challenges, responsibilities, and dedication inherent to forest service, helping visitors gain a deeper understanding of the department’s work beyond enforcement.

Promoting Awareness and Engagement

Speaking on the occasion, the TGFDC leadership emphasized the Corporation’s commitment to creating educational spaces that inspire environmental stewardship. They noted that these initiatives bridge the gap between citizens and conservation efforts while serving as knowledge hubs for students, visitors, and the public.

The event was attended by TGFDC officials, including Executive Director Eco-Tourism L. Ranjeet Nayak, IFS, CGM D. Vekateshwar Reddy, GM Dr. G. Skylab, Sr. Divisional Manager and Assistant Director Smt. Shireesha, Financial Controller Kiran Kumar, and PM Lakshma Reddy.
