Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Saturday emphasised that responsible functioning of temple governing boards is essential to prevent irregularities and protect the sanctity of religious institutions. He stated that temples must be safeguarded beyond political considerations and administered with accountability and devotion.

The Deputy Chief Minister made the remarks while virtually inaugurating the newly constructed Sri Kalahasti Giripradakshina road from the State Secretariat at Velagapudi. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore, the project aims to provide improved facilities for devotees undertaking the sacred circumambulation of the hill shrine.

Addressing the gathering, Pawan Kalyan said temples are symbols of civilisation, culture and spiritual heritage, and any lapses in administration directly affect devotees’ faith. Referring to controversies during the previous government’s tenure, he said several alleged incidents at Tirumala could have been avoided if the then temple boards had acted responsibly. He urged newly constituted governing bodies to ensure that past mistakes and alleged disrespectful incidents are not repeated.

“The protection of temples should rise above politics. Governing boards must function with responsibility to preserve dharma and public trust,” he said, reiterating the coalition government’s commitment to temple development and preservation of Sanatana Dharma. He also appreciated Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy for prioritising temple conservation and development initiatives across the State.

The Deputy Chief Minister announced that the 22 kilometre Giripradakshina path would be further enhanced, with plantation drives planned along both sides of the route after the Shivaratri Brahmotsavams to improve the pilgrim experience.

Highlighting broader infrastructure initiatives, he said the government is developing road connectivity to nearly 22 major temples at a cost exceeding Rs  40 crore through various schemes. Projects include ghat roads and improved access routes to prominent temples across multiple districts.
