The Telangana Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Seethakka has emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to upgrading rural road infrastructure across Telangana. She underscored that the Panchayat Raj Department is responsible for serving 2.60 crore people and addressing the lack of proper road facilities, which has long contributed to the backwardness of villages.
The Minister, in a review meeting with the Panchayat Raj Engineering Department on Wednesday, detailed the government’s ambitious plans to construct roads connecting every settlement to Gram Panchayats, and from there to Mandal and District headquarters, following the Chief Minister's directives.
A massive investment of Rs 2,600 crore is being allocated for rural road construction, with an additional Rs 1,600 crore earmarked for road maintenance. She stressed the need to improve road capacity to accommodate 30-metric-ton vehicles and urged engineers to draft accurate estimates to avoid unnecessary revisions.
Minister hails lasting strength of historical structures
Seethakka called on rural engineers to take inspiration from the lasting strength of historical structures built during the times of Kakatiyas and Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. She encouraged them to create enduring infrastructure that would benefit future generations.
“Engineers are the builders of the nation, and the responsibility to ensure quality lies in their hands,” she remarked, adding that contractors failing to deliver quality work would be blacklisted, and officials approving substandard projects would face strict action.
Citing the Gundivagu Bridge in Adilabad district, which has remained incomplete for over a decade, the Minister lamented the tragic loss of 40 lives due to the absence of safe crossings.
She also shared her personal experience of losing relatives in road accidents caused by poor road conditions in her constituency, reiterating the urgent need for infrastructure improvement. “Real development can only be achieved when road facilities are provided to remote villages,” she said.
Minister Seethakka urged engineers to conduct district-level reviews every 15 days and submit progress reports regularly. She called for roads in villages to be built to the same quality as those in cities and tailored to meet growing transportation demands without compromising on quality.
She emphasized that engineers must work with a sense of responsibility and view citizens as their relatives, fostering trust and delivering infrastructure that bridges the urban-rural divide.
Seethakka asserted that no settlement or village should remain without road connectivity. She expressed her pride in belonging to the ST community and leading the Panchayat Raj Department, urging rural engineers to work with dedication and fulfill the trust placed in them by the people of Telangana.
