Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh has fulfilled another major promise made to the people of his Mangalagiri constituency by laying the foundation stone for the long-pending Tadepalli retaining wall project, aimed at protecting flood-prone areas along the Krishna River.
The project, estimated to cost ₹294.20 crore, had remained pending for decades. Fulfilling a commitment made during the election campaign, Lokesh ensured that the project moved swiftly from proposal to execution, with administrative approvals and the tender process completed within a year.
The retaining wall will be constructed on the right bank of the Krishna River downstream of the Prakasam Barrage, covering the stretch from 0.9 km to 2.610 km.
Officials said the structure will be built using advanced pile-raft technology, with 1,920 deep piles extending 26 to 38 metres into the ground to ensure structural strength and stability.
Engineers have designed the project to withstand extreme conditions, including flood flows of up to 15 lakh cusecs and potential seismic activity. The technology being used will provide a robust and long-term solution to recurring flood threats in the region.
Once completed, the retaining wall is expected to offer permanent relief from flooding to nearly 50,000 residents living in low-lying areas of Tadepalli, including Sundarayya Nagar and Mahanadu Colony. The project will also provide additional protection to parts of Amaravati and the nearby National Highway 65.
During the same visit, Lokesh also inaugurated a new community hall at Nulakapeta, constructed with ₹65 lakh in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds provided by the Srirangam Foundation. The facility is expected to serve local residents for social and community events.
Speaking on the occasion, Lokesh said several more development initiatives are being planned for the Mangalagiri constituency. He reiterated the government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure projects and improving public facilities in the region.
