Babu invites PM Modi for Bhogapuram Airport inauguration

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and personally invited him to inaugurate the Bhogapuram International Airport on August 1. The two leaders are also understood to have discussed several issues related to the state’s development.

The meeting was held at Parliament House and was attended by Union Ministers Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, along with MPs Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu and Kalisetti Appala Naidu. The Chief Minister requested the Prime Minister to attend the inauguration, describing the airport as a landmark infrastructure project that would transform the development of North Andhra.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has intensified preparations for the inauguration, treating it as a prestigious event. The Municipal Administration Department has appointed four senior IAS officers to oversee civic arrangements, sanitation and public amenities.

The officers assigned are GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner H.M. Dhyan Chandra, Rajamahendravaram Municipal Commissioner Rahul Meena, and Guntur Municipal Commissioner Mayur Ashok. They will be assisted by 26 non-cadre officers deputed from various urban local bodies, all of whom have been directed to report immediately to the Vizianagaram District Collector for coordination.

The upcoming airport, officially named the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, is expected to emerge as a major growth engine for North Andhra. The state government believes the project will significantly improve regional connectivity, attract investments and generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, similar to the development witnessed around Hyderabad after the commissioning of the Shamshabad airport.
