Metro India News | AMARAVATI : The Srisailam project’s inclusion in the World Book of Records is a matter of pride for the people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, State Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said on Tuesday, citing the dam’s engineering strength, hydropower generation capacity and contribution to irrigation and drinking water supply.

In a statement, the Minister said the multipurpose reservoir had served the two Telugu States for decades, withstanding heavy floods while meeting the drinking water needs of lakhs of people and supporting irrigation across lakhs of acres. He said the reported recognition highlighted the project’s importance beyond power generation, particularly its role in managing Krishna river waters and supporting regional development.

Minister Ravi Kumar said the Pattiseema project, implemented under the foresight of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, had improved the scope for using Srisailam reservoir water to meet the needs of Rayalaseema.

Through Pattiseema, approximately 500 TMC of water had been supplied to the Krishna Delta so far, he said. This arrangement had provided greater flexibility to utilise Srisailam waters for irrigation and drinking water requirements in Rayalaseema while meeting the needs of farmers in the Krishna Delta.

The Minister said the project demonstrated the importance of efficient water management and long-term planning in distributing available resources according to regional requirements.

He added that Srisailam continued to be a vital multipurpose infrastructure project for both Telugu States, contributing to power generation, agricultural activity and drinking water supply. Its reported recognition, he said, underscored the significance of major water projects in meeting the region’s long-term needs.
