The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed senior IAS officer G. Saiprasad as the new Chief Secretary of the State, marking a key administrative transition at the highest level of the bureaucracy. The appointment comes as the tenure of the incumbent Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand concludes on February 28.

The State government has already issued official orders appointing Saiprasad as the next Chief Secretary. He is scheduled to formally assume charge at the State Secretariat on Saturday morning, succeeding Vijayanand, who is completing his term after steering the administration through a crucial phase of governance and policy implementation.

A 1991-batch IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, G. Saiprasad brings over three decades of administrative experience across diverse sectors, including district administration, urban governance, energy, housing, and infrastructure development. An M.Tech graduate, he began his civil service career in 1992 as Assistant Collector in Warangal. Between 1993 and 1995, he served as Assistant Collector in Paderu, gaining extensive field experience while working in tribal regions.

Saiprasad later held several important district and municipal positions, serving as Commissioner of the Guntur Municipal Corporation from 1995 to 1997 and as Joint Collector of Kadapa during 1997-98. He went on to serve as District Collector of Kurnool between 2000 and 2003, where he handled key administrative and developmental responsibilities.

Over the years, he has played a significant role in the State’s power and housing sectors. His assignments included Joint Managing Director of AP Transco, Chairman and Managing Director of Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh (EPDCL), CMD of AP Central Power Distribution Company (APCPDCL), and Vice Chairman of the AP Housing Board.

At the national level, Saiprasad served as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Power between 2011 and 2014, gaining experience in central policy formulation and energy sector reforms. He later worked in the Chief Minister’s Office between 2014 and 2019, holding key roles as Secretary and Principal Secretary, contributing to administrative coordination and governance initiatives.

Subsequently, he served as CMD of the Solar Power Corporation and Principal Secretary of the Energy Department. Since 2024, he has been serving as Special Chief Secretary in the Water Resources Department.
