Hyderabad’s Dr. AVS Suresh, Senior Consultant in Medical Oncology and Hematology, played a pivotal role in a historic milestone as the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) received official recognition from Guinness World Records for the “Most viewers of an Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare lesson live stream on YouTube.” The record-breaking session registered a peak concurrent viewership of 17,999.
The achievement emerged from a nationwide online training programme on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, designed for registered medical practitioners across India. The initiative was conceptualized by NBEMS under the leadership of Dr. Abhijat Sheth, President of NBEMS and Chairman of National Medical Commission, along with Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Officer on Special Duty to the President, Governing Body.
The record-setting lecture—Programme Module 6—was designed by Dr. AVS Suresh, who also serves as Convener of the AI in Healthcare Education Programme at NBEMS. Delivered as part of a structured six-month, 20-module curriculum, the programme featured national and international experts from leading institutions including Harvard University, Indian Institute of Management Lucknow, and Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru. NBEMS offered the course free of cost, ensuring broad accessibility.
Programme planning and execution were jointly managed by Dr. Rakesh Sharma and Dr. Suresh in collaboration with AI specialists in India and abroad. The record attempt was officially verified by Swapnil Dangarikar, an appointed adjudicator from Guinness World Records, following a comprehensive evaluation process.
The session highlighted the transformative role of AI in cancer diagnosis, treatment planning, imaging analysis, and predictive medicine. Dr. Suresh emphasized ethical AI adoption, patient safety, and evidence-based application, drawing on his dual expertise in oncology and hematology.
Dr. Sheth stated that the achievement aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to advance Digital India and responsible AI adoption. He also acknowledged the support of Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda, Ministry officials, faculty members, academic partners, and participating doctors.
Beyond setting a global record, the recognition reinforces India’s leadership in digital innovation in medical education. It reflects the growing interest among healthcare professionals in AI and underscores NBEMS’ commitment to preparing future-ready healthcare leaders.
