Kyiv says Moscow’s all ballistic missiles hit targets, renews calls for more Patriot interceptor systems ahead of Nato summit in Ankara
Kyiv: Russia launched waves of missiles and drones across Ukraine on Monday, killing at least 21 people, including 15 in Kyiv, in one of the deadliest attacks on the capital this year.
At least 60 people were injured as rescuers searched damaged residential buildings for survivors. Ukraine’s air force said Russia fired 351 drones and 68 missiles, with all ballistic missiles reaching their targets, exposing critical gaps in Kyiv’s air defences. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the US and European allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air shield by supplying more Patriot interceptor missiles at the upcoming Nato summit in Ankara, Turkiye.
Russia claimed it targeted defence-industrial facilities, while Ukrainian officials said residential areas were hit. The UN says over 16,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed since the war began.
UK jets intercept Russian aircraft
Two British F-35 fighter jets intercepted and escorted a Russian Bear-F maritime patrol aircraft after it repeatedly approached HMS Prince of Wales in the Norwegian Sea, Britain’s Defence Ministry said on Monday. It said the aircraft flew dangerously close, dropped sonobuoys and ignored international safety frequencies before leaving the area under escort. Russia did not immediately comment.
