In what may well qualify as one of the most unusual protests in recent municipal history, a routine council meeting in Nidadavole town took an unexpected turn after a councillor arrived carrying a live cobra to highlight civic negligence, triggering panic, disbelief, and an uncomfortable dose of symbolism inside the council hall.
YSR Congress Party councillor Dake Anil Kumar, representing Ward No. 20, walked into Friday’s municipal council meeting with what initially appeared to be an ordinary bag. Minutes later, officials discovered that the bag contained a bottle holding a live snake, locally identified as a cobra, allegedly brought as a visual demonstration of worsening sanitation conditions in his ward.
