Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Seethakka unveiled a coffee table book “Goddess of Folk – Sammakka Saralamma Jatara” at Jyoti Rao Phule Praja Bhavan, Hyderabad on Friday.
On the occasion, the Minister congratulated the Kakatiya Heritage Trust for producing the coffee table book. She said the Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara has become a symbol of the self-respect of the tribals and the culture of Telangana.
Seethakka said the recognition of Ramappa Temple as a World Heritage Site is a matter of pride for Telangana and the Kakatiya Heritage Trust has played a key role in achieving that recognition.
She further stated that the Telangana government is working to bring international heritage recognition to the Medaram Jatara as well. Seethakka urged the historians, sociologists, experts and anthropologists to work together in this direction.
The Minister congratulated the Kakatiya Heritage Trust for compiling rare images of the Medaram fair and bringing them in the form of a coffee table book. Seethakka said that each image in this book reflects a history and praised the services of the photographers who put Medaram on the world map. The Minister honoured the Kakatiya Heritage members and photographers who participated in the programme with shawls.
Renowned film director and coffee table book editor B. Narsinga Rao, retired IAS officers B.V. Papa Rao, B.P. Acharya, retired IPS officer M. Ratan, Kakatiya Heritage Trust trustee Professor M. Pandu Ranga Rao, J. Sridhar Rao and others were present in the programme.
