South Central Railway is constantly monitoring the water quality in order to ensure supply of safe and potable drinking water across its railway network. As part of this, the zone has strengthened inspections, maintenance activities and water-quality monitoring at Charlapalli Railway Station in Secunderabad Division. The inspections cover groundwater sources, municipal water supply, storage facilities, chlorination processes and distribution systems. To further strengthen water quality assurance, SCR has enhanced monitoring mechanisms through daily checks of residual chlorine levels and regular bacteriological testing to detect any possible E. coli contamination.

Water samples collected from Charlapalli Railway Station between  September 12-18, 2026 indicated satisfactory water quality across all parameters. 42 drinking water samples tested for residual chlorine levels at the station, with all samples found satisfactory and no water sample was reported unfit. Eight  drinking water samples were subjected to bacteriological examination, and none was found unsafe and no E. coli-positive sample was detected. The the quality of water supplied at railway stations should meet the standards prescribed in the Indian Railways Medical Manual.
