The Telangana government has intensified efforts to fill long-pending nominated posts, raising hopes among Congress leaders who have been waiting for appointments for several months. According to party sources, the government and the Congress leadership are determined to complete the process as soon as possible, preferably by Diwali. A list of around 50 candidates has reportedly been prepared, with the possibility of including another 30 vacancies in corporations whose existing chairpersons’ terms have expired.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud reportedly met at the Chief Minister’s residence in Jubilee Hills to discuss nominated posts, Legislative Council elections and the formation of the TPCC executive committee. With the Congress government approaching three years in office, the party is keen to fill the remaining vacancies and strengthen its cadre ahead of the next Assembly elections, which are about two years away.

Several key positions, including the chairperson posts of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation and Musi Riverfront Development Corporation, are also awaiting appointments. Other important positions, such as Deputy Speaker and Government Chief Whip, need to be filled.  The terms of 37 corporation chairpersons appointed earlier have expired. The remaining positions are likely to go to new candidates, providing an opportunity for other party leaders and workers who have been waiting for recognition.

Governor’s quota MLC seats to focus on underrepresented communities

The allocation of three vacant MLC seats under the Governor’s quota was also reportedly discussed during the meeting between Revanth Reddy and Mahesh Kumar Goud. The Chief Minister is said to favor giving priority to communities that have not received adequate representation in the Legislative Council so far. The selection of Congress candidates for the two graduate constituency MLC elections has reportedly caused some dissatisfaction among leaders and workers from Backward Classes (BCs), as both candidates belong to the Reddy community.

Mahesh Kumar Goud is said to have brought these concerns to the Chief Minister’s attention and explained the measures being taken by the party to ensure its candidates’ victory, including assistance with voter registration.

Of the three MLC positions to be filled under the Governor’s quota, the Chief Minister has already announced that one will be allocated to a member of the Padmashali community. The leadership is reportedly considering allocating another seat to a leader from a Backward Class community. The choice for the third seat remains undecided, with the party weighing whether to nominate a woman or give preference to a leader from the Brahmin community.

There has also reportedly been discussion about providing representation to the Madiga community, one of Telangana’s largest social groups. Party sources said the leadership was concerned that failing to offer the community a place in the Legislative Council could trigger dissatisfaction. The Congress is therefore considering a broader approach to ensure representation for the Madiga community and other groups that have so far lacked representation in the Council.

TPCC Working President appointments on agenda

Revanth Reddy and Mahesh Kumar Goud are also understood to have discussed appointments to the long-pending posts of TPCC working presidents. The Chief Minister reportedly stressed the need to fill these positions immediately by appointing leaders whose selections are unlikely to trigger internal disputes. With the next Assembly elections drawing closer, the government and the party leadership are seeking to accommodate party workers, address concerns over community representation and strengthen the organization ahead of the electoral contest.
