Tension prevailed at South Central Railway headquarters in Rail Nilayam on Wednesday as Congress leaders and cadres staged a demonstration after railway authorities declined to operate special trains for party workers traveling to a New Delhi protest on November 1.
Police personnel intercepted the demonstrators as they attempted to enter the complex, subsequently arresting several key figures and shifting them to the Monda Market police station.
The protest was led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, alongside Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, MLAs Sri Ganesh, Naveen Yadav, and Danam Nagender, among other senior party leaders.
Addressing reporters, Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that MP Anil Kumar Yadav had met the SCR General Manager six days prior to request two dedicated trains for party workers. He alleged that railway officials delayed their response until Tuesday night, creating a false impression of approval before issuing a final refusal.
Mahesh Kumar Goud asserted that the SCR's rejection was an deliberate attempt by the Central government to block Congress cadres from participating in the national capital agitation.
"Congress leaders and workers will reach New Delhi despite the obstacles created by the Central government," The TPCC president said, adding that the party would maintain its nationwide agitation until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns.
