BJP Telangana spokesperson N.V. Subash on Wednesday accused Congress leader Sonia Gandhi of hypocrisy over reported claims in her memoir, "Belonging: A Journey of Love", that she had opposed her husband Rajiv Gandhi becoming Prime Minister.

Subash questioned the claim, citing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s media adviser Sanjay Baru’s account of the power structure in the UPA government in his book "The Accidental Prime Minister".

He alleged that the Congress continued to promote dynastic politics while questioning the BJP-led NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Subash also referred to the political debate surrounding Sonia Gandhi’s possible elevation as Prime Minister in 2004.

Questioning the Congress leadership’s political ambitions, he asked why Sonia Gandhi’s children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, continued to pursue active politics if she was genuinely opposed to members of her family occupying the top post. Subash asserted that leadership should be determined by public mandate, governance and accountability rather than family legacy.
