metro india news I hyderabad : Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday reached out to the politically influential Yadav community, seeking their backing for his government's three big-ticket development agendas - Musi River Rejuvenation, Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 and Bharat Future City, while promising greater political empowerment and protection of the community's self-respect.
Addressing a massive 'Sadar Sammelan' organized at NTR Stadium in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy said the development of Telangana as India's most developed state cannot happen without Yadavs.
"Our endeavour is to establish Telangana as the highly developed state in the country. We are already moving forward with Musi Riverfront development, expansion of Metro rail network, creation of Bharat Future City and it requires the support of Yadavs. Your support is crucial," the Chief Minister said, greeting lakhs of Yadavs who had gathered in their traditional attire.
Why Yadavs Matter in Telangana Politics
The Yadavs, also known as Golla, Yadava and Kuruma-Golla in Telangana, are one of the largest BC communities in the state. According to the Telangana Socio-Economic Caste Survey 2024, released by the Revanth Reddy government in February 2025, Yadavs constitute about 8-9% of the state's total population and nearly 18% of the Backward Classes population.
The caste survey, which covered 3.55 crore people, was the first of its kind in the country after Bihar and became a national model. It revealed that BCs constitute 56.33% of Telangana's population. Yadavs, being numerically dominant among BCs, especially in Greater Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts, are a decisive vote bank in 35-40 Assembly segments.
Politically, the community has traditionally leaned towards BRS and TDP in the past, but Congress made significant inroads in the 2023 Assembly elections by promising BC empowerment and a BC Chief Minister if elected. Revanth's outreach on Wednesday is seen as part of Congress's Mission 2028 to consolidate BC votes ahead of local body elections and 2028 Assembly polls.
Political Empowerment: Congress's Yadav Face
Revanth Reddy used the stage to list out what Congress has done for Yadavs in the last 22 months after coming to power in December 2023.
"Yadav community is given its due and appropriate representation. Anil Kumar Yadav was given the post of Rajya Sabha MP and Naveen Yadav became MLA from the Congress. We also appointed Eshwaramma Yadav as a member of Yadagirigutta Temple Board," he said.
Anil Kumar Yadav, former Youth Congress president and ex-corporator from Hyderabad, was nominated to Rajya Sabha in February 2024. He is the first Yadav to go to Upper House from Congress in Telangana in recent times. Bandla Krishna Mohan Yadav is the other prominent Yadav MLA from Gadwal.
The CM added, "It is also our responsibility to ensure that the self-respect of Yadav brothers is never compromised."
The reference to self-respect is significant. In 2023, during BRS rule, there were protests after Sadar festival was denied permission at some places due to law and order issues. Congress after coming to power declared Sadar Sammelan as a state festival in November 2024.
Rs 5 Crore For Sadar - What Is Sadar Festival?
Chief Minister announced that the state government has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for Sadar event this year.
Sadar is a unique festival celebrated only in Hyderabad, started over 70 years ago by the Yadav community. It is celebrated on the second day after Diwali, where Yadavs display their specially decorated bulls - bulls with painted horns, garlands, embroidered jhools - and parade from Narayanguda YMCA to Kachiguda and beyond. It symbolizes their love for cattle and their traditional occupation of cattle rearing.
In recent years, Sadar has become Hyderabad's second biggest mass festival after Bonalu and Bathukamma, drawing over 10 lakh people.
The Three Projects CM Flagged
Musi Rejuvenation Project - Rs 1.50 Lakh Crore Vision
The Musi project aims to clean and develop 55 km of the Musi river from Ananthagiri hills to Bapughat, on the lines of Thames River in London. The government has proposed a 7.5 km riverfront, 27 STPs, bridges, eco-parks and commercial zones. The project requires rehabilitation of nearly 10,000 families living in the Musi riverbed and buffer zones. Many of those families are engaged in dairy and cattle rearing - a traditional occupation of Yadavs. The CM's assurance on Goshala at Yadagirigutta is linked to this.
Metro Rail Phase-2 - Rs 24,269 Crore
The state government has sent a proposal to the Centre for Metro Phase-2 covering 76.4 km in five corridors: Nagole-Shamshabad, Raidurg-Kokapet, MGBS-Chandrayangutta, Miyapur-Patancheru and LB Nagar-Hayathnagar. It also includes connectivity to Bharat Future City. This is pending approval from the Union Urban Development Ministry since August 2024. Revanth Reddy has repeatedly said Phase-2 will transform public transport for Old City and western IT corridor, where a large number of Yadav youth work in dairy supply, transport and logistics.
Bharat Future City - 30,000 Acres Net Zero City
Proposed between Srisailam Highway and Nagarjuna Sagar Highway, Bharat Future City is Revanth Reddy's dream project spread over 30,000 acres, including 11 villages in Kandukur, Kadthal, Amangal mandals. The government has announced it as India's first Net Zero, AI City with investment potential of Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Land acquisition is in progress, and the CM needs support of agrarian BC communities including Yadavs to avoid unrest.
