The Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, has left for Chennai to participate in the all-party meeting convened by Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin on the critical issue of delimitation.
During the meeting to be held on Saturday, CM Revanth Reddy will emphasize the Congress party’s concerns regarding the Centre’s proposed delimitation process based on population figures. He has been advocating that Southern states should not be penalized for successfully implementing the Union Government’s family planning policies, which led to a decline in population growth over the years.
He argues that if population is considered as the primary criterion, the 1971 census figures should be used, as family planning policies were introduced from that period onward.
Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin has also echoed similar concerns, stating that population should not determine delimitation. He has called for a united stand among Southern states to ensure fair representation. Stalin has invited Chief Ministers and key political leaders from Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu for discussions on this issue.
From Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is also participating in the meeting, with working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and former minister G. Jagadish Reddy representing the party. KTR has reiterated BRS’s opposition to the Centre’s move, stating that it unfairly discriminates against Southern states.
The meeting aims to formulate a collective response to safeguard the political representation and interests of Southern states in the delimitation process.
