Poor infrastructure continues to plague municipalities

Despite being a district headquarters, Mahabubabad municipality continues to struggle with inadequate internal road infrastructure, leaving residents to endure severe hardships, particularly during the monsoon season.

People living in several residential colonies say they are forced to navigate muddy and waterlogged streets, making even walking difficult after rainfall. Residents have alleged that successive governments have failed to provide proper internal road connectivity to long-established residential areas. They claim that while main roads have seen some development, interior streets remain neglected despite repeated appeals over the years.

The delay in executing sanctioned road works has also drawn protests from elected representatives. In Ward 22, residents and the local ward councillor staged a symbolic protest on Friday by planting paddy seedlings on a muddy road to highlight the poor condition of the internal roads, despite funds reportedly being allocated for their construction.

A similar protest was held recently in Ward 25, where the ward councillor sat in the middle of a muddy road to draw attention to the deteriorating condition of the streets. Residents said that even moderate rainfall causes water to stagnate across several localities, creating serious inconvenience for commuters.

Residents of Kesamudram Municipality have also expressed concern over incomplete drainage works that have disrupted road access in several areas. According to locals, the existing roadside drainage system was removed to facilitate the construction of new drains along major roads. However, with the project remaining incomplete, wastewater has accumulated in several locations. Following recent heavy rains, the situation worsened, prompting municipal workers to dig temporary channels to allow stagnant water to flow.
