Ongole breed bulls garner Rs 41 crore at Brazil auction

Ongole breed of bulls has once again impressed the world by earning Rs. 41 crores at a massive cattle auction in Brazil recently (Vitiana-19 variety) last week.  Their glittering white body, strong muscles, and a majestic muzzle will surprise those who have seen it. Simultaneously, the ability to withstand cold and heat, considerable strength, and high milk production capacity make this species unique. This breed lives longer than the rest of the breeds. They are genetically strong.

Their offspring also have similarly strong characteristics. Ongole area of Prakasam district is the place of origin of these bulls. They are mainly used for cultivation works, meat production, and participation in international sports. The breed has once again proved the international importance of the species by fetching 41 crores at an auction in Brazil. In the past too, there has been an international demand for ongole bulls. The species is widely grown in Mexico, Brazil, the United States and Africa.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed happiness over the victory. "Ongole Gitta (bulls) has once again raised India's prestige on the world stage. This is a great event that reflects the state's animal husbandry heritage. Ongole breeds contain the best range of genes. The government is making special plans for their conservation and development. Apart from supporting the dairy farmers financially, steps are being taken to ensure that their breed is further developed," the CM said.
