Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday firmly rejected repeated resignation demands from rival political parties, asserting that his government had earned its mandate from the people and would continue implementing welfare and development programmes without yielding to political pressure.
Speaking after releasing the first phase of Rythu Bharosa assistance at Shilpakala Vedika, the Chief Minister said Telangana was not anyone's personal estate and his government would not resign merely because the Opposition demanded it. "We are not bonded labourers standing before anyone's mansion to submit resignations. We were elected by the people and are accountable only to them," he declared.
The State government released Rs 2,482.02 crore into the accounts of 41.37 lakh farmers in the first phase of Rythu Bharosa. Revanth Reddy announced that Rs 9,000 crore would be credited to eligible farmers within the next nine days, stating that the required funds had already been arranged.
Highlighting his government's achievements over the last 30 months, the Chief Minister said Telangana had waived farm loans worth Rs 20,000 crore benefiting 25.35 lakh farmers, enhanced Rythu Bharosa assistance to Rs 12,000 per farmer, and disbursed nearly Rs 36,000 crore under the scheme so far. He also said the government had spent about Rs 30,000 crore on free electricity, Rs 4,000 crore as bonus for fine paddy, Rs 3,500 crore on Rythu Bima, and a total of Rs 1.75 lakh crore for the welfare of farmers.
Revanth Reddy urged farmers to shift towards market-driven cultivation, particularly fine varieties of paddy, keeping in view scientific forecasts of uncertain rainfall. He said seven varieties of fine paddy seeds had been made available through Rythu Vedikas and appealed to farmers to adopt suitable cropping patterns based on rainfall conditions.
Turning his attack on the previous BRS government, the Chief Minister alleged that Telangana inherited a debt burden of over ₹8 lakh crore when the Congress assumed office, compared with only Rs 69,000 crore at the time of State formation. He accused the previous regime of leaving unpaid dues to employees, sarpanches, self-help groups, hostels and welfare institutions while pushing the State into a severe financial crisis.
He challenged the BRS to a special Assembly debate on farmers' welfare, claiming the Congress government had delivered more for agriculture in two and a half years than the previous government did in a decade. Revanth Reddy also criticised the handling of the Kaleshwaram project, alleged unfulfilled promises on farm loan waivers and Dalit welfare, and accused the previous regime of misgovernance, financial indiscipline and widespread surveillance of citizens. He maintained that the present government remained committed to transparent governance, timely salary payments, large-scale recruitment, infrastructure expansion and fulfilling every promise made to the people.
KTR claims Revanth failed farmers
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao on Tuesday accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of betraying farmers and using publicity events to divert attention from key agricultural issues.
KTR also questioned the outcome of the Chief Minister's recent meetings with Union ministers in New Delhi, alleging they yielded no tangible benefits for Telangana. He asked why Revanth Reddy, who could meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly, needed the intervention of Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to secure meetings with Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Manohar Lal Khattar.
Referring to the Hyderabad Metro expansion, KTR said the decision to appoint SBI Caps to study Metro Phase I valuation, funding and Phase II expansion showed there was no assurance of the proposed Rs 13,527-crore loan from the Indian Railway Finance Corporation and that the project had effectively returned to square one.
