Leverage technological tools in voter enrolment: ⁠Governor Jishnu Dev Varma

The 15th National Voters Day was observed across Telangana on Saturday. Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma presided over the event as Chief Guest and exhorted citizens to actively participate in the electoral process to strengthen democratic traditions.

He encouraged voters to leverage technological tools introduced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for seamless enrolment and voting. Governor lauded Telangana’s record of peaceful elections and urged all stakeholders to uphold this standard.

Governor said “I appeal to all the people of Telangana to strive hard towards strengthening our democratic traditions by being actively involved in the electoral process. One of the most critical ways that individuals can influence government decision making is through voting. I also encourage all voters to avail the different technological tools provided by the Commission for enrolling as voter and for ease of voting, and to wholeheartedly participate in the electoral process.”

The Governor emphasized that voting is a fundamental mechanism for citizens to influence governance. Acknowledging the issuance of 5,45,026 new EPIC cards to first-time voters, he commended the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and his team for their efforts in the successful publication of the Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls on January 6, 2025.

The Governor highlighted the ECI’s initiatives to enhance accessibility, including online voter registration, ramps at polling stations, braille-enabled EVMs, and out-of-turn voting for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). He called on all eligible voters to participate in elections wholeheartedly.

The Governor patted the state CEO and said “In Telangana, the Election machinery has successfully conducted Assembly and Parliament elections recently. Active involvement of political parties as well as civil society organizations contributes greatly to the conduct of free and fair elections.”

Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy reported that 5,45,026 voters aged 18-19 were enrolled in the draft Summary Revision Rolls 2025. Stressing the importance of engaging young voters, he reiterated the theme, “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure.”

The event was marked by celebrations at 35,907 polling stations across 20,034 locations in Telangana. Senior officials, including, and Additional CEO Lokesh Kumar D S, Deputy CEO Satya Vani and I Rani Kumudini, (Retd IAS) attended.
