“The capital city projects are being executed transparently and at reasonable costs. YSRCP is spreading misinformation.”

MAUD Minister, APIndia

Metro India News | AMARAVATI :

Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana has rejected allegations regarding the cost of Amaravati construction works, asserting that the capital city projects are being executed transparently and at reasonable costs. He accused YSRCP leaders of spreading misinformation to mislead the public about the ongoing development of the state capital.

During a visit to inspect bridge construction works across Kondaveeti Vagu and Palavagu in Amaravati, the minister reviewed progress and directed officials to ensure smooth water flow during the monsoon season without any obstruction from ongoing infrastructure projects.

Addressing the media, Narayana said the cost of key residential projects in Amaravati compares favorably with similar central government developments. He noted that the HappyNest housing project was awarded at a cost of ₹984 crore, translating to a construction cost of ₹3,393 per square foot. Similarly, residential quarters for gazetted officers were tendered for ₹1,003 crore, with a construction cost of ₹3,684 per square foot.

In comparison, the recently approved Central Government Residential Complex in Amaravati, sanctioned by the Union Cabinet at a cost of ₹1,234 crore, has a construction cost of ₹3,945 per square foot, he said. These figures, according to the minister, demonstrate that Amaravati’s residential projects are being built at lower costs than comparable central government facilities.

Narayana emphasized that many structures being developed in Amaravati are not ordinary buildings but iconic projects designed to reflect the state’s aspirations and meet international standards. He said factors such as future requirements, modern amenities, durability, and long-term utility must be considered while evaluating project costs.

Narayana expressed confidence that the Union Cabinet’s recent approval for central government office complexes in Amaravati would further accelerate capital development. He reiterated that the government remains committed to transforming Amaravati into a world-class capital city and urged the public not to be misled by what he termed baseless allegations regarding construction costs.

69 bridges being built

The minister also highlighted the importance of flood management infrastructure in the capital region. He said a total of 69 bridges are being constructed in Amaravati, including 43 bridges across waterways and 26 bridges within Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) layouts. Authorities have been instructed to ensure that drainage systems and water channels function efficiently during heavy rains.
