Jagan asks YSRCP cadre to prepare for local body polls

YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed confidence that voters would deliver a clear verdict against the NDA coalition government if the upcoming local body elections are conducted freely and fairly.

Addressing a meeting of senior party leaders, Jagan said the elections should not be viewed merely as a contest for seats but as an opportunity to strengthen the party’s grassroots organisation and stand by its cadre. Recalling what he described as misuse of official machinery and intimidation during previous MPTC, ZPTC and municipal elections, he directed leaders to field strong and capable candidates in every constituency.

Jagan reportedly warned party coordinators against allowing uncontested victories. He said leaders should be prepared, if necessary, to field family members to ensure that the party contests every seat. He further warned that coordinators in constituencies where uncontested elections occur would not be considered for future Assembly candidature.

As part of efforts to strengthen the organisational network, Jagan said 14–15 lakh QR-code-based identity cards for party workers had been prepared. Their distribution is expected to begin from September 5 through mandal, constituency and district-level meetings.

He asked the cadre to take the slogan “Backstabbing Party – Backstabbing Governance” to villages and highlight what the party claims are differences between YSRCP rule and the present coalition adm-inistration.

The former Chief Minister also called for stronger legal and media cells from constituency to state level to assist party workers facing cases or alleged political pressure. He urged the organisation to make extensive use of social media platforms, including the Jagan 2.0 Super App, YouTube and X, to communicate its version of events.

Jagan also called for greater monitoring of police conduct, saying officials who act illegally under political pressure should be documented for possible future legal action. With local elections approaching, he asked leaders to put aside internal differences and remain in their constituencies for the next 60–70 days, focusing on candidate selection, cadre mobilisation and grassroots campaigning.
