‘Congress govt prioritising welfare of gig and unorganised workers’

A special welfare programme for unorganised-sector workers, gig workers and auto-rickshaw drivers was organised under the leadership of All India Unorganised Workers & Employees Congress (KKC) Greater Hyderabad Chairman Mandalam S. Akhil near the Sai Baba Temple on Minister Road in Ramgopalpet Division.

During the programme, ILWF Union ID cards were distributed to auto-rickshaw drivers, while Rs. 50,000 health insurance cards were distributed to unorganised workers and gig workers under the aegis of KKC.

The health insurance facility is being extended to workers in collaboration with KKC and Wellness Hospitals. TPCC Vice-President and Congress Party In-charge of Sanathnagar Assembly Constituency, Dr. Kota Neelima, attended the programme as the chief guest and distributed the cards. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kota Neelima said that although unorganised workers, gig workers and auto-rickshaw drivers play a vital role in sustaining the urban economy, many of them continue to lack adequate employment security, health protection and social security benefits.

She said the Congress government is firmly committed to standing by these sections and safeguarding their welfare and interests. Govt has passed a Bill in the Assembly providing Rs. 5 lakh accident insurance along with several other welfare measures for their protection.

Dr. Kota Neelima further said that the Rs.  50,000 health insurance facility being provided to workers through the joint initiative of KKC and Wellness Hospitals would offer valuable support in meeting their healthcare needs.

She said the distribution of ILWF Union ID cards to auto-rickshaw drivers would provide them with an organised identity and a platform to collectively raise their rights and concerns. KKC Greater Hyderabad Chairman Mandalam S. Akhil said that the welfare of unorganised workers, gig workers and auto-rickshaw drivers remains one of KKC’s foremost priorities.
