Min calls upon panchayats, muncipalities to give top priority to waste management

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Pongur Narayana said on Monday that panchayats and municipalities should give top priority to waste management. A day-long workshop on capacity building and behavioural change was organized by the Swachha Andhra Corporation at a private hotel in Vijayawada. Speaking at the workshop, Narayana said that 6500 tonnes of solid waste comes every day.

He said the previous government had left behind 80 lakh tonnes of garbage and as per the instructions of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, the target was to remove all the garbage by October 2 this year. He recalled that as a part of this, the state government  is conducting Swachh Andhra every third Saturday, which has increased the awareness among the people about waste management.

 Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Kommaredi Pattabhi Ram called upon everyone in the state to be a partner if the state is to be at the forefront of waste management. Pattabhi Ram said that all the stakeholders are very experienced and assured that the government will take their suggestions and suggestions and make plans to take the state forward in terms of cleanliness.

Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar said that cleanliness is a priority abroad. "Our state was ranked 6th in Swachh Survekshan last year and this year steps are being taken to improve our state's rank further” he said. Minister Narayana, Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhi, Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar, Municipal and Urban Development Director Sampath Kumar, Swachh Andhra Corporation MD P. Anil Kumar unveiled the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) poster. NGOs, stakeholders, training institutes, panchayat and municipal department officials participated in the program.
