Describing blood donation as the highest form of service to humanity, Governor Pratap Shukla said that there could be no greater gift than saving a human life through voluntary blood donation.
The Governor was speaking after inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp organised by the Telangana State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society at the Sanskriti Community Hall in Lok Bhavan on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Shiv Pratap Shukla said blood donation was not merely a medical intervention but a symbol of compassion, humanity and social responsibility. Every drop of donated blood, he said, offers hope, courage and a chance of survival to patients in need.
Highlighting the importance of charity in Indian culture, he noted that blood donation is regarded as one of the noblest forms of giving. Voluntary blood donors who come forward to save the lives of strangers without expecting any reward are the true heroes of society, he said.
As President of the Telangana State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, the Governor appreciated the services rendered by voluntary blood donors, stating that their efforts strengthen humanitarian values and embody the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).
He underscored the need to expand the blood donation movement to villages, towns, educational institutions and youth organisations, and called upon young people, women and citizens from all walks of life to make voluntary blood donation a regular part of their lives.
Shiva Pratap Shukla also reiterated his commitment to building a tuberculosis-free and drug-free Telangana. He said achieving this goal would require coordinated efforts by the government, voluntary organisations, educational institutions, youth groups and civil society.
Earlier in the day, the Governor flagged off a large-scale awareness rally organised by the Telangana State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society near the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Statue on NTR Marg in Hyderabad as part of the World Blood Donor Day observances.
