Doctors at Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad saved the life of 45-year-old Ramavath Ramesh, who was admitted in a critical condition following a massive heart attack and severe heart failure, by using advanced VA-ECMO (Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) technology. When the patient was brought to the emergency department, his heart was unable to pump sufficient blood to the vital organs.  A multidisciplinary team of specialists initiated VA-ECMO support, a sophisticated life-saving technology that ensures continuous blood circulation and oxygen delivery throughout the body.

As the patient Ramesh’s heart function gradually improved, the ECMO and ventilator support was withdrawn. He was discharged in a stable and healthy condition after 14 days. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shiva Prasad Naidu, Senior Consultant Cardiologist, Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad, mentioned that timely initiation of VA-ECMO ensured continued blood flow to vital organs and provided the heart an opportunity to recover.  Dr. Balasubrahmanyam, HOD & Consultant Critical Care Specialist, added that the successful recovery of this patient demonstrates the crucial role of ECMO in treating severe cardiac emergencies.
